What Did You Miss This Week? (Week 297 #341)

Rapid Recall, Listening & Practicing!!!

Joe and Al Taylor continue to refine and present the incredible learning and practice method they're calling Rapid Recall, Listening & Practicing and if you want to improve your playing through smarter (and shorter!) practice sessions, pay attention!

Using readily available computer/ipad programs, the idea is you play a lick, phrase or even a single note and listen to it. In the equal space that follows, you attempt to copy what you heard. This loops and repeats multiple times and while working through this, you are recording yourself. As demonstrated in class last night by a willing subject, there is much to learn by hearing yourself attempt to copy what you hear. The speed with which you'll learn and improve is incredibly rapid.

Although he acknowledges this is technique practice and training, Joe hastened to stress that TECHNIQUE DOES NOT EQUAL MUSIC. The point of technique practice is to improve your music!

There are mp3 files in the works from the Filisko/Taylor workshop - we'll get word to current students soon about how to get them!

Pocket Full of Soul!!!

  • If you have upgraded, renovated or otherwise modified your goals as a harp player recently, be sure to let Joe know. The better he understands your goals, the better he can help you.
