What Did You Miss This Week? (Week 223 #266)

Recital Practice!!!

Our B1 Blues Harmonica Recital is this Saturday - Number 16 - and judging by rehearsal last night, it's going to be another great show. Spend some time reading over the recital checklist to be sure you're prepared and be sure to work at minimizing the time between songs and between performers. Do your part to make the show move smoothly.

You can check times here (be sure to arrive at least an hour prior to your time slot): Recital Schedule.

Hohner's Thunderbird Harps!!!

As we reported recently, Hohner has announced a new line of super low harps. Thanks to David Barrett, we have two videos of Joe up on YouTube with info on the harps and playing suggestions:

And thanks to our buddy Robert Koch for this review of the Thunderbirds. Easier to read in French if you happen to be able, otherwise click the "translate" button in the upper right.

Ivan Marcio Recording!!!

Ever wonder what a studio recording looks like? Here's a great video showing behind-the-scenes of B1 friend Ivan Marcio of Brazil recording with Mud Morganfield. Great video and hot playing, Ivan!

Class Notes
  • Recital is this week at the Harlem Avenue Lounge. Be there Saturday, May 21.
Special Harmonica Ensemble Class Announced!!!

- this news from Shoji Naito regarding a special ensemble class - this is your chance to play the Folk and Roots Festival, so sign up now!

Harmonica Ensemble Class
Saturdays from 11:00 AM to 12:20 PM beginning 05/28/2011 for 4 weeks

We will play Juke, Soul Finger, Albatross, Last Night and more.
Right now, I am working on an arrangement of Georgia On My Mind.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Even though the class is scheduled to begin on May 28, the May 28th class will be re-scheduled to June 25th due to Shoji's travel schedule (and many of you are busy on the holiday weekend, too). So the first day of class is June 4th.

(Because of the school's administration policy, I still need you to sign up before May 28th to avoid the class being canceled.)
This class is preparation for the Chicago Folk & Roots Festival performance.
We will play at 12:30pm on Saturday, July 9th.

Classes on Saturdays:
June 4 at 11 am
June 11 at 11 am
June 18 at 11 am
June 25 at 11 am
and July 9th at 12:30 pm: The performance!
If you have any questions, email shoji@shoblues.com

Please sign up now!

Thanks,
Shoji
