What Did You Miss This Week? (Week 388 #433)

More Junior Parker!!!

Nineteen plus inches of snow made for a light night in B1, but we had a good time. In the performance class the folks there were able to run through a lot of their repertoire and try a few new things. The highlight seemed to be everyone's vocal chops - people sang better than ever and we were even treated to Katsu finally busting out the Japanese lyrics!

Joe did have a song on hand to go over, so we looked at another great Junior Parker tune, Mother-In-Law Blues.

If you doubt the influence of Sonny Boy II on Parker, this is the song to make it clear - check the fills, check the four chord phrases - solid Sonny Boy. The other cool thing apparent here is Parker's musical maturity and dedication to the song rather than to flashy instrumental playing. He repeats the turnaround phrase, which gives the song shape, and he also does plenty of repetition in his solo playing. Killer, solid playing!

Class Notes
  • Pack your shovel in the car and come on back to class next week!
  • Note that private lesson registration began this week, so if you want your private slot with Joe or Shoji, don't forget to register.

Morry Sochat & the Special 20s

Morry is working up his next recording and it needs you cheering in the background and encouraging the band. Head down to Legend's tomorrow night for their live recording session. There are sure to be lots of special guests.

Full details are in our calendar, but don't forget to whisper "Honeydripper" in the doorman's ear for half off the cover charge!
